The Importance Of Being An Effective Manager - 842 Words
As a manager, a continuous balancing act is performed, simultaneously juggling numerous roles each unique on its own. When combined results in effective managerial leadership. A crucial aspect of being an effective manager to act as a mentor, when doing this it is essential to be accessible, approachable and interact with your employees on a consistent basis; reaffirming that their efforts do not go unnoticed. Establishing such a foundation ensures that employees take ownership and pride in their work, reducing the likelihood of low employee engagement. Employee engagement is directly correlated to productivity; when employees feel undervalued, they begin to withdraw their efforts. To mentor is not only to manage but also to lead; with a managerial title comes great responsibility. To be an effective leader the key is to motivate employees with your actions by conducting yourself along with the product of your work in a manner you desire to be imitated. Upon entering the workforce I reported to a manager who was consistently absent and unapproachable. When this person was present, they would frequently criticize the level of productivity by my coworkers and me although the manager had put in place a set of rules, they themselves had failed to follow them. Such a discrepancy between the standards set for the employees and the actions of the manager resulted in complete chaos.
